Your Role at Batesville:

As a Director, Value Engineering, you will be responsible for planning and directing the overall engineering activities of the division.  Coordinates the creation, development, design, and improvement of products in conformance with established programs and objectives.  Provides engineering advice and assistance to other departments as required.

What You’ll Do:

  • Administers an engineering division utilizing skills based on technical competence and expertise judgment.  Ensures that sound-technical engineering concepts are applied
  • Establishes team’s annual goals and implements and coordinates plans to ensure they are completed within costs, on schedule and other associated objectives
  • Develops operating budget to achieve Operations goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for formulating and recommending engineering policies and technical work in accordance with project objectives
  • Advises appropriate personnel of the latest technical and engineering developments
  • Cooperates with the Production and Quality Control Departments in preparing production and process designs; and in establishing uniform specifications for materials and equipment
  • Provides engineering services to other departments as required
  • Prepares short and long term engineering plans and programs for design, construction or alteration of activities
  • Hires, retains, and develops a high performance team; holds associates accountable for achieving annual performance goals
  • Manages employees utilizing Human Resources processes, including performance reviews and performance expectations, IDP’s, work responsibilities, top grading, etc.  Follows all company policies/practices
  • Other duties may be assigned

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent from a college or university in engineering; and 7 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis in engineering
  • MBA or similar master’s degree preferred
  • Ability to direct, motivate, and manage direct reports and cross functional teams
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems
  • Possess analytical, logical and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook are required
  • Ability to work cohesively with all levels of internal and external customers; ability to communicate across functional and multicultural lines
  • Possess strong organizational, written and verbal communication, problem solving and time management skills
  • Possess ability to multi-task and manage many responsibilities and projects at one time
  • Able to review and write capital fund requests for changes generating or sustaining improvements in cost, quality and/or delivery
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
  • Employ advanced program and project management tools, solutions and techniques
  • Solve problems and make tactical and strategic decisions for all assigned responsibilities
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards or PeopleSoft
  • Understand FMEA process
  • Understanding of lean principles and problem-solving techniques
  • Familiar with manufacturing systems, material flow, and associated processes
  • Familiar with Six Sigma and/or principles in statistical control
  • Metal Fabrication / Industry Knowledge
  • Wood Processing / Fabrication / Industry Knowledge
  • ASQ, ASME, or similar professional organization member relating to engineering and design

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance to the Company policies, the Code of Ethical Business Conduct and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Travel:

Associate must be able to travel up to 35% of the time.  

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee may occasionally be required to crouch. The employee may occasionally lift items as heavy as 25lbs. Specific vision abilities may include the employee’s ability to see near and far distances.
