We are currently seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team within commuting distance of Batesville, Indiana.

Working Environment:

Typical office environment. This role can be hybrid, with a combination of office-based and remote work based on business needs. Travel of up to 20% may be required to support site and leadership needs.

Your Role at Batesville:

As a Human Resources Generalist, you will perform HR-related duties at a professional level supporting a remote workforce across the United States and Canada, with responsibility across employee relations, labor relations, performance management, recruiting, onboarding, policy implementation, and employment law compliance. From day one, you'll be mentored and evaluated against the competencies that matter most for HR leadership, so your growth path is transparent and achievable.

How You’ll be Rewarded:

  • Batesville is a family. You will be part of a family of highly committed associates who are passionate about our company, committed to our customers and excited about our future.
  • The expected base salary range for this role is $75,000 – $95,000 per year. Actual compensation within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
  • IMMEDIATE ELIGIBILITY – Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance, as well as prescription coverage, short-term disability, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and more.
  • Generous 401K Matching Program
  • Paid time off
  • Opportunities for development and advancement

What You’ll Do:

  • Create an environment of positive associate relations and open communication.
  • Develop and administer employee engagement initiatives.
  • Manage associate relations issues — ensuring prompt, compliant resolutions.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and maintain thorough, defensible documentation.
  • Innovate HR strategies that support the operation's goals and culture.
  • Maintain associate paper and electronic records.
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance work culture.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining HR policies and procedures.
  • Take an active role in the labor negotiation process, including research, preparation, and participation, as applicable.
  • Prepare employee separation documentation, conduct exit interviews, and partner with managers on improvements based on findings.
  • Maintain associate confidentiality and protect operations by handling sensitive information appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This posting is designed for someone who wants more than a generalist role — someone building toward leading an HR function. Over your first year, you'll take on progressively greater ownership in areas that mirror our HR Manager role, including:

  • Acting as a trusted business partner to functional leaders — advising on employee relations, performance management, and salary administration rather than just administering process.
  • Owning full-cycle employee/labor relations for a business unit, including investigations and (where applicable) participation in collective bargaining and labor negotiations.
  • Contributing to talent review, succession planning, and leadership development conversations.
  • Analyzing and communicating HR metrics to tell the story behind the numbers, not just report them.
  • Partnering with EHS on safety compliance, incident investigation, and building a safety-first culture.
  • Demonstrating the judgment, business acumen, and influential leadership needed to manage people and processes independently.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of relevant HR experience; candidates who show strong leadership potential and business acumen are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Working knowledge of local and federal employment laws and HR best practices for the U.S. and Canada.
  • Union or labor relations exposure preferred — or strong interest in developing this skill set.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex administrative processes and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills — the foundation for effective people leadership.
  • A passion for nurturing a positive workplace culture.
  • Motivated, goal/results-oriented, adaptable, self-starter, and analytical.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.

Nice to Haves:

  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred (or willingness to pursue).
  • Experience supporting a remote workgroup preferred.
  • Experience with Workday preferred.
